The southern islands of the Philippines have been hit by typhoon Bopha causing strong winds, widespread flooding and landslides that has caused considerable damage to property and infrastructure. The country is made up of over 7ooo of islands some of which are very hard for rescue authorities to reach. The total population of the country is 92 million. The level of development varies widely between wealthy areas of the capital Manilla and the least developed areas in the outlying islands.
